The Power of People

Partnerships and Strategic Alliances are some of our greatest keys to success.  As technology advances, we could go the balance of our lives never interacting with another human. There are some days we probably all think this may be a good idea.

Yet each and every one of us chooses the meeting, event and hospitality business as our career.  Our livelihood is made from daily “people” interactions.  Technology supports our experiences but we have all learned nothing replaces Face to Face connections.

Diversity is our greatest strength.  We need to appreciate not only what our diverse membership offers each of us but to expand our horizons to our fellow Industry Partners and friends.  Create strategic alliances to strengthen our professionalism and give us all the tools to be the best we can be and cherish wonderful friends to share those experiences.

On that note, we need to remember to respect and appreciate each person we encounter.  No one knows where you have been or the anguish you carry without walking in your shoes.  I challenge each of you to make a POSITIVE IMPACT in every connection you encounter.  Leave that person walking away with a smile on their face because you were able to bring out the best in them.

Take pride that our Board, has made a POSITIVE IMPACT creating ONE industry calendar; sort as you see fit to address your personal needs.

Let us share your personal POSITIVE IMPACT experiences. Please send to president@mpithcc.com

July 2010
When We Meet, We Change the World.
Be the Positive Impact!

We could not ask to be part of a more interesting and powerful Industry.  Our role, via Goals, Objectives, Agendas, Missions & Vision is to ensure the world understands the POWER of MEETINGS and the impact our Industry has on every day life.  Below is a sampling of age old issues still in the forefront: the environment, women’s rights and social welfare.  What impact have YOU had in the last month? Share your highlights in the next SPOTLIGHT and let’s show the WORLD what we do when we meet!

Since we last met:

1. Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum 2010 -- 21 June 2010, Bonn, Germany. In an address to the Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum 2010, UNFCCC Executive Secretary Yvo de Boer said: “Climate change is at the front of political leaders’ minds, on the agendas of corporate boardrooms, and reflected in the hopes and fears of billions of people around the world. Without the media to report what is happening in the field of climate change, this simply would not have been the case.”

The 2010-2011 Board is preparing for our Annual Retreat.  We are here to serve YOU the Members, let us know how we can best assist for each of you to meet your goals.

2. Women Deliver 2010, a global conference, held in Washington DC on June 7-9, 2010. The theme of the conference is: "Delivering solutions for girls ...  To put world leaders on notice that the time for action on maternal health is now, 3,400 advocates, policymakers, development leaders, health care professionals, youth, advocates, and media from 146 countries converged on Washington DC on June 7-9 at Women Deliver 2010.  More than 800 speeches and presentations were given at the six plenaries and 120 breakout sessions, and the heads of five UN agencies, plus the Secretary-General, were represented. Thirty countries, UN agencies, the World Bank, corporations, and foundations helped support Women Deliver.

3. 2010 Joint World Conference on Social Work and Social Development -- The International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW), the International Council on Social Welfare (ICSW), and the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) share a common heritage. We all see growing social problems and human injustices worldwide. We know we must work together to ensure that the voice of social development and social work is heard in this crisis. Our conferences provide a focus for our campaigns. We have decided to hold joint biennial conferences and the first will be in Hong Kong from 10th to 14th June 2010. The title of the conference is: ‘2010 Joint World Conference on Social Work and Social Development: the Agenda’. We plan to orchestrate a global consultation process involving social workers and social development advocates at all levels and from all countries, to identify key issues for our cause, to develop our agenda, to enhance social protection, and to set our priorities for the second decade of the 21st century as we face up to the social crises of the 21st century.

Choose your cause, enhance your profession. MPI THCC is here to share best practices, latest trends and be the leading organization for cutting edge Meetings & Events.  Join our journey as life long learners building lifetime relationships. Each month I will share some of my favorite experiences and ask each of you to share yours too!
