President’s Address
CREATE…Connections, Opportunities, Inspiration

I am proud to be an MPI Texas Hill Country Chapter member! I am most honored and humbled to be elected President of the MPI THCC for the 2018/2019 term; with the help and support of our fellow chapter members and the Board of Directors, I will do my best to meet the challenge.

We closed out the 2017/2018 year with a membership total of 318. We credit this growth in large part to a membership drive initiative that accessed MPI THCC reserve funds to push our membership growth forward. As a result, we saw a gain of 40 new members in the past two months. Kudos to our past President, Kathy Danielson, and the Board for their support and the membership team for driving this initiative. This helped increase our membership, as well as create more opportunities for volunteer growth.

As we move into this year, we are thrilled to celebrate the MPI THCC 35 th Anniversary as a chapter. Through the years, our chapter’s landscape has changed, evolving and growing, which is in large part due to the hard work that goes into planning our chapter events and initiatives; it is all done by our member volunteers. So we say THANK YOU! It is because of your dedication, time and talents that we continue to grow as a chapter. Striving to fulfill the MPI mission of connecting the global meeting and event community to learn, innovate, collaborate and advocate.

Even though the term has just begun, our team has been hard at work since early spring, building committees and developing goals for the year. Our focus is to provide our members and prospective members the platform to CREATE…Connections, Opportunities and Inspiration. Here is a brief snapshot of the chapter team’s goals for this year:

  • The Communications team set their initiatives to include the continuation of our bi-weekly at-a-glance e-mails to help declutter your inbox, a social media street team, a member recognition program and a promotion of our 35-year anniversary successes, as well as to provide more touchpoints on social media and video content.
  • Our Education team will focus on increasing attendance at education events by bringing exciting speakers with relevant topics to new and renovated venues, implementing a “student-planned” education session, a Women in Leadership event, a collaborative education session with HSMAI and a reimagined Texas Education Conference.
  • Our Finance team will work more closely with our sponsors to showcase them to our members, develop unique sponsorship opportunities for our partners and prospective partners, create a collaborative holiday event and work closely with teams to keep fiducial responsibility at the forefront.
  • Our Membership team will continue to grow our membership and ensure that we retain our current members through active engagement in our membership programs so that each member feels connected to the chapter, plan two redesigned Community Outreach initiatives, develop a committee member bootcamp and create a volunteer engagement and recognition plan.
  • Our Office of the President will work with teams to develop standard operating procedure playbooks, chapter brand development and a strong succession plan.

I joined MPI THCC to make connections and to continue my education. With the ever- changing landscape of the meeting industry, I knew the importance of education. It wasn’t long before I realized one of the greatest rewards I received as an MPI member was the opportunity to serve my fellow colleagues. I continue to learn new tools of the trade through attending various MPI events. In addition, MPI has helped me attain my CMP, create a network of suppliers, and it has given me mentors that I know I can turn to whenever I have a question and who inspire me daily. Meeting professionals are a rare breed and being amongst these incredibly talented individuals is a true blessing.

This year, I hope that you are inspired to be part of something bigger than yourself. That you try new ideas you see at events that create exceptional experiences for you and your meetings/attendees. Take time to step out and volunteer in your industry and share with us your experiences through social media and write-ups in our newsletter. We are excited to create opportunities where you are connected and inspired.
