Pocket Planner

pocketplanner100
I've recently been introduced to a great little app called Pocket Planner that allows the most novice of planners a tool to create a perfect event down to the smallest of details. The app is completely Free, uses Linked in and Facebook to login and is easily accessed via android and I phone. Pocket Planner uses attendee count and ratios to plan details such as amount of hors d'oeuvres to order per hour, number of bartenders to staff for a full bar or wine & beer only, and even number of staff needed at check-in. I recently found this app particularly useful in planning my Grandparent's 60th Wedding anniversary. It allowed me to easily determine what I needed to request from the restaurant hosting the event to plan a seamless experience to remember! The only downfall is the app is still working out some kinks so the Glossary and CIC Manual are not easily accessed, but all in all, it's a quick reference for all your planning needs. It currently works on Android phone and iPhones but not on iPads.

PicMonkey

picmonkey
No PhotoShop? No problem. PicMonkey.com is an online (no software to download or install) image editor that allows you to resize and crop, add filters and effects, and create your own collages, Facebook covers, or business cards from scratch. Hundreds of fonts, filters, graphics, frames, and touch-up tools are available for free or upgrade to a paid Royale plan for many, many more options. Nearly every image and banner on mpithcc.org and the Under the Oaks e-newsletter has been created or edited in PicMonkey. How's that for a first hand endorsement?

gDoc Binder

Binder100

We've recently been informed by a fellow MPI member, of a nifty new app that called gDoc Binder. Our  member discovered this app at a client's board meeting where the Executive Director showed off this app during the presentation. The app mimics the appearance of a classic notebook but allows you to read your digital binders on the go! For only a $10.00 fee, who wouldn't want to get rid of messy papers and sticky notes to organize all of your important notes in one convenient place.

WorkFlowy

PCmag.com calls it a "slick and simple list-making app." Indeed. When we first met WorkFlowy (introduced to us by Renita Fonseca, CMP with Texas Radiological Society), we were skeptical. She swore by it, but it looks like...a white screen with bullet points for adding your to-do items. Big deal. But we've fallen for it, hard. You can pull it up anywhere, any time, on any device with one tap, whenever you think of something you simply must get done. It auto saves quickly and constantly, you can make multiple lists and share them with others (or not), and what we thought was boring is easy on the eyes. One mouse click and you can put a "done" line through anything. If it's good enough for Harvard Business Review (they recommended it), it's good enough for us. Thanks, Renita! Free for iOS and Android, basic version. Got an app you can't live without? Share!
