The Speaker as a Meeting Professional

The meetings business is exciting, but it can also be a lot of hard work. Long before I was an active member of the industry I was exposed to the long hours involved in planning conferences because my wife spent ten years as a catering and convention services manager (and then a sales manager) for Hyatt Hotels. I saw that meeting professionals work the hours during which clients hold events: weekends, weeknights, early mornings, etc. Additionally, they work for months (sometimes years) on the behind-the-scenes details to ensure a successful experiential event. While most attendees never gave a thought to the planning it took to execute an amazing opening session or a fun-packed offsite party, the work was managed by a team of planners, hoteliers, AV techs, speakers, entertainers, and transportation coordinators.
