Event Planner

Wilkinson Rhodes

Where do you work and how long have you been in that position?
I work with my wonderful friends at Wilkinson Rhodes, Billinda Wilkinson and India Rhodes. I've worked off and on with Billinda as a vendor in previous jobs for about 10 years. We've always said that we would make a great team and "EVENTFULLY" enough the timing was right and I came on board a little over a year and half ago. Best move ever!! EVER!!

What is your favorite thing about your career?
My fave thing is getting to create different environments for our clients to immerse their guests. We're amazing at it! We take their wants, their needs, their message and tailor our decor to it. It's challenging! It's fun! It's fulfilling! I love it! I've done it for 26 years!

What's your favorite holiday?
I GIANT heart Thanksgiving! Growing up I spent my Thanksgiving weekends at my Grandmother Elida's table helping her prepare our dinner. In the evenings, we'd make tamales together for the holiday season. I get my love of cooking and baking from her. It's where I go when I'm stressed. I stress bake! Heh!

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
I'm great with Austin. I've lived here almost 30 years. Everywhere else is a great place to visit! I love my big blue dot!

How would your friends describe you?
Loyal. 'nuff said.

What is your favorite game or sport to watch and play?
That's a toss-up! Is cardio a sport? BUT, I am an avid watcher/rooter/cheerleader of Texas Longhorn Football and Basketball (Men's and Women's). Hook 'Em!! Texas Longhorns!! We're SMART and STRONG!!!

Director of Sales

DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Austin

Where do you work and how long have you been in that position?
I am in my 6th year as Director of Sales at DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Austin. I've been with Hilton Hotels Corporation for 20+ years.

What is your favorite thing about your career?
I actually have two favorites, our loyal clients and the hospitality family I have connected with over the years.

What is your favorite family vacation?
Anywhere on a beach. I was born and raised near one and it makes me happy and at home.

What makes you laugh the most?
My favorite people in the world make me laugh the most. You know who you are.

What was the last movie you went to? What did you think?
Really don't want to say, but it was Cinderella. I needed a no brainer 2 hour break and the movie schedule and mine matched, it was perfect for that. Spoiler alert, happy ending. Still want to see American Sniper.

If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be?
Spend more time with family and friends, there never seems to be enough time. And play tourist in Austin!

Owner

ExpoTex, LLC

1) Where do you work and how long have you been in that position?
I own ExpoTex, LLC, an event management company. We've been in business since May of 2000.

2) If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?
That's a tough one, I'm a little past the "mentoring" stage. But if I could hang out with someone that I would want to learn from, it would probably be Jeff Rasco. I'd love to learn more about social media in general, and besides that Jeff's just fun to be around.

3) One fact about you that would surprise people?
I'm certified as an ultralight pilot, flying a paraplane. Most people think that's a scary thing to do, but actually I found it to be very relaxing.

4) If you could paint a picture of any scenery you've seen before, what would you paint?
That's an interesting question. I think it would be the Sicilian coast, near Taormina. But you can't go anywhere in Italy that doesn't look like it deserves to be painted.

5) What's your favorite indoor/outdoor activity?
Indoor would probably be movies, either at home or at the theater. Outdoor is either kayaking or riding my bike around Lady Bird Lake.

6) If you could throw any kind of party, what would it be like and what would it be for?
I think an Oscars party would be fun. I'd have it at the new Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar, broadcast on the big screen of course. Free drinks and free popcorn for everyone, and a contest to see who picked the most winners for best movie, best actor, etc.

Julie Symons

Julie Symons

Where do you work and how long have you been in that position?
I am not currently working. I took some time off to care for a family member and am slowly re-entering the industry. It has been a long time but I have missed the camaraderie and fun of the Hill Country Chapter.

What do you splurge on?
I tend to splurge on handbags.

Who is your celebrity crush?
George Clooney

One fact about you that would surprise people?
When I was in the 6th grade, I was chosen to be an anchor on a local news program for kids. I would tape the show on Friday nights at the KXAN studios downtown, and it would air a few weeks later on Saturday mornings. Unfortunately, that was such a long time ago, that I have no recordings of me.

If you could have any job in the world, what would it be? Why?
Hmm, any job. I'd have to say an actress. I've always thought it would be fun to escape into another character. Plus, I don't mind being in front of the camera.

What are your hobbies/interests?
I enjoy cooking, reading, traveling and hanging out with my husband and our dogs, Boone a 100-pound labradoodle and Fletcher the Corgi.

Where do you work and how long have you been in that position?
I work for Bowlero. I was brought in to run the sales department in September of 2014, so I have been here about 4 months now, but I have worked in event sales for 8 years.

If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?
Bill Gates. Not only is he a brilliant business man, but I love that he is also a humanitarian.

One fact about you that would surprise people?
Many people are very surprised that I am a Gamer; I love to play video games when I have time.

If you could paint a picture of any scenery you've seen before, what would you paint?
I cannot paint very well, but I would paint a picture of The Rocky Mountains in Colorado covered in snow on a sunny day. That is my favorite place to visit.

What's your favorite indoor/outdoor activity?
When I am indoors, you can usually find me listening to music or cooking.
If I am outside, I love to practice my photography, swim or take my dogs to the dog park.

If you could throw any kind of party, what would it be like and what would it be for?
If I could throw any kind of party, it would probably be for New Year's Eve. The food would have to be amazing, complete with Fireworks, and all you care to drink. I would have all sorts of entertainment options available and the music would have to be amazing.
